Why do yoga?

Physical benefits

Regular yoga asana (poses) and sequences strengthen and stretch the body developing greater flexibility and improving balance. It is really is a great way to look after your body. There is lots of evidence about how yoga helps the body online and in books.  If you are interested ask me to recommend texts.  If you are keen to build strength, improve flexibility and balance I really encourage you to give a yoga class a try, preferably one of my classes.  

Mental Health Benefits

Practicing yoga helps boost wellbeing.  One of the definitions of yoga from the ancient Yoga Sutras by Patanjali is "Yoga is the restriction of the fluctuations of the consciousness." The mindful practice of quietening the mind by practicing yoga.  Through yoga asana, pranayama (breathing) and relaxation techniques the mental benefits of calming, reducing stress and restoring well being can occur.

FAQs

I can't touch my toes/ I'm not flexible, can I still try a yoga? Yes you can.

Will everyone be better than me? Yoga is not a competition.  My classes are friendly and non judgemental.
